A long time prayer is answered.

You know, I have said it before, it’s very rare you find friends like you had when you were young.  I am still friends with my childhood best friend to this day, but unfortunately we live 100′s of miles apart, so spending time together, really just doesn’t get to happen.

So for many years, I have been praying that God would just send me one great friend.  One who was a Christian, one I could totally be myself around and make me laugh, and one that well, just loved me for who I really am!  Well, he answerd that prayer, not once, but twice over!

Julie and Julia (yes, that is one with an e and one with an a)  are awesome!   We have the best times when we’re together!  They both attend the church that we do, however, we had never really spoken to one another until Dave was diagnosed with his eye condition.  That prompted Julie to call me out of the blue to offer help….and the rest is history.

That is just one of the things I meant in my previous post about Dave’s disease being “a gift”.  It brought me two of the best people I know, and NEEDED in my life!   And it has also brought Dave some much needed friendships.

I wouldn’t choose to have had them brought to us this way, but God knows what He’s doing…and who are we to question Him?

A weekend of firsts…Part I

This weekend was one of the most fun weekends I have had in a while!  We started it off by hanging out with our friends Julie and Danny.  Now Danny is a self-proclaimed “redneck”.   He goes fishing AND hunting.   I have never really been friends with someone who hunts.  I think it’s a cruel sport, and quite frankly get a little upset when people talk about killing a cute little deer.  He has deer heads he has shot himself all over his house, with plaques of the date and the place he killed this poor, innocent, adorable animal.

The first time I visited Julie and Danny, I swear, they were all just staring at me from the wall, as if I was the one that shot them.  They talked about how wonderful deer meat was, and I swore up and down, I would NEVER eat it!

Fast forward to Friday night…we decide to grill out hamburgers…easy enough.  She had made this amazing dip for the wait on dinner, so we busted out the Tostido’s and she served Dave and I a big hunk of refried bean dip she had baked in the oven.  It was YUMMY!  She proceeded to clump down a pretty big hunk of it for me, to which I replied quickly “I can never eat all that, the plate you gave Dave and I is plenty”  None-the-less, I proceeded to eat it…the next thing I knew, it was clean!  Man, it was good!  I held up my now empty plate and yelled out to her “Hey Julie, I didn’t need my own plate, huh?”  She laughed so hard, actually harder than I thought it deserved…but we went on with the night.

While sitting down to dinner an hour or so later, she said “did you like the deer meat?”  Well I knew for sure, those burgers were NOT deer meat…she and I had made them together!  Then it hit me…it was the meat in the dip…I THOUGHT was hamburger meat!  She knew if she’d told me BEFORE, I would have never eaten it, so she tricked me into it!

She got me good!   I will get her back soon, but for now, I guess I can’t say I would never eat deer meat again, and actually thought it was quite tasty! :)   But for sure, you’ll never catch me shooting one!

I can be so mean!

This week, I was reminded by an old friend of something I did back in my “younger days” to another friend of mine.  It always brings me such a good laugh whenever I am reminded of this story, that I thought I’d share…

When I was about 15 or so, I was REALLY into Amy Grant, as was my friend Tracey in our youth group.  But she added a whole new meaning to the word fan….she was obsessed.   You see Amy was about to come to town for a concert, Tracey had written Amy Grant a letter and was hoping to hear back from her, and she did…kind of…

I decided to write Tracey “From” Amy, and say how happy “I” was that she was such a big fan, and that “I” would love to meet her, I think I even told her she could come backstage and meet “me”.  Oh man, she was SO excited.  She carried that letter around youth, showing it to everyone who would listen.  After a while, I finally had to let her in on the joke.  She was heartbroken!

Tracey and I had lost touch for quite a few years, and a couple years ago, she found me.  When I went over to her house to see her, she reminded me of this letter (I think she said she even still has it) and how it scarred her.  I felt bad…but man, it’s still funny!  I guess you would have to KNOW Tracey to get the full effect though.

The other day, while on FaceBook, another friend reminded me of this and said he was thinking about it for some reason and had a good laugh again.  I am glad I can bring a laugh to people every once in a while..even if it IS at someone else’s expense ;) HA HA  Sorry Tracey, I love you, but it WAS funny!
